Commercial Roofing Materials

Commercial roofs can be made from many different types of materials. Commercial roofing materials are meant to withstand the test of time, and to provide protection for those who work above them every day. Commercial rooftop leaks can lead to serious damage, so it is important that you choose the correct material if you want your commercial building to last! Commercial roofing systems are designed with specific needs in mind – whether it’s durability or energy-efficiency, there is a commercial option out there for everyone.

Types of Commercial Roofing Materials

There are many commercial roofing norfolk va materials available today, and they can be divided into three categories: synthetic organic, inorganic, and mineral. Let’s take a look at each type:

Synthetic Organic Materials

Synthetic organic materials are the most common material used for commercial roofs. They have many different characteristics that make them ideal for industrial applications – they are inexpensive, have great longevity (up to several decades), excellent chemical resistance, and flexible enough to withstand extreme temperatures. One downside is that some types of synthetic organic sheet roofing products will emit gases if exposed to high heat or direct sunlight; these emissions may include formaldehyde gas and carbon monoxide.   Although it may be tempting to use a product that is less expensive, make sure that it doesn’t compromise the safety of your workers.

Inorganic Materials

Some types of inorganic roofing are made from slate, clay and concrete, while others are created with fiberglass materials. In addition to being fireproof and inexpensive, these roofs are also non-combustible. However, they still need to be protected against ultraviolet rays by using UV protection coatings or overlays; if not properly treated, inorganic roofs can become brittle and crack under stress.

Mineral Materials

Also known as traditional or “split” shingles, mineral roofs are made from clay coated in asphalt-based materials. These types of shingles tend to be leak-resistant and last for the life of the roof – up to 50 years! Mineral roofs are great for heavy snow zones because they can withstand extreme amounts of weight without buckling; however, they aren’t fireproof, which makes them unsafe in some cases.  In addition to that drawback, mineral roof shingles tend to be less energy efficient than other options available on the market today. But if you’re looking for a long-lasting type of commercial rooftop material, this may be the one for you.
