Three types of wood framing include:

  • Platform framing – In this type of framing, the framing of each floor is built separately.
  • Balloon framing – This type of framing uses wall studs that run through the entire height of the house.

Steel Framing

Concrete Framed Structures

Concrete framing is one of the most common types of house framing. Most of the modern buildings are made of a frame made of:

  • Concrete beams – These are horizontal load-bearing members of the structure.
  • Concrete columns – These vertical elements are the primary load-bearing members.
  • Slabs – The slabs of concrete bear vertical loads and also transfer horizontal loads to beams.

The columns and beams transfer the load to the foundation and contribute to the structure of the house. Besides the above-mentioned elements, foundation and walls are other primary elements of a concrete framed structure.

Materials like brick, stone, drywall can be used as wall materials for these types of house framing. The popularity of building with SIPs has grown in recent years because they minimize costs. In addition, they are durable and environmentally sustainable. Such structures also reduce heat losses and air leaks.
